Variable rewards
DOLPHINS, NOT SLOTSTony Robbins has a small story in Awaken the Giant Within: dolphin trainers who reward every trick get a flat show. Trainers who mix it up — a fish, a skip, a jackpot — get dolphins that stay sharp. That’s random-interval / variable rewards. Dopamine likes “maybe this time.” Phones and junk habits already run on it. If the bad loops use surprise, the good ones need a little surprise too.
The brain follows the body
LOOK A LITTLE SILLYDon’t start with the story in your head. Start with the body. Smile in the mirror. Clap your hands and smile even though you look silly. Notice how you feel after. The mood often moves once the body does.
Better questions
STUDY THE HAPPY ONESLook at people who are already happy and content. Pick their brains. In a hard stretch, what do they ask themselves? How do they set up a better experience? We all know someone like that. Worth noticing how they talk to themselves.
